Mother Bernetha Gamble

Mother Bernetha Gamble is a native of Kingstree, South Carolina.  She is the youngest daughter of twelve children born to the late Joe and Mary McCrea.  She obtained her education through the Kingstree Public School System.  After graduating from Kingstree High, she continued to Nursing School.  In 1966, Bernetha married her childhood sweetheart, Benny Joe Gamble and later moved to Washington, DC.  From this union of forty three glorious years, five wonderful children were born, Bennett, Beverly, Bertha, Barron and Bashawn.  With everyone’s name beginning with B’s, the family acquired the name, The BG’s by many friends and families.

Mother Gamble was a faithful and dedicated member of the Way of the Cross Mother’s Church for over forty years.  She was baptized and received the gift of the holy ghost while serving under the phenomenal leadership of the Late Bishop John L. Brooks and Presiding Bishop Alfonzo D. Brooks.  She was also a member of the Sanctuary Choir, The Way of the Cross Chorus, The Pastor’s Choir, The Mass Choir, The Nursery Auxiliary, and many more.

In 2001, her oldest son Bennett was ordained an Elder and Pastor.  Mother Gamble, along with her entire family, joined her son at New Beginning Way of the Cross Church.  In addition to her spiritual labor, Mother Gamble is a public servant.  She has been and is still employed, for nearly thirty years, with the District of Columbia Public School System.  In 2015, she was selected to sit in on a Citywide Town Meeting, with President Obama for an upcoming Male Mentoring Group Kick Off.  In between her busy life and her many meals that she prepares for her family, as well as her church family, she is still able to commit to her church ministry.  She currently serves as the Trustee over our Scholarship Ministry and is the Mother of our Church.  She has always been very humble and has always displayed the characteristics of a Virtuous Woman.  With continued prayer and God’s Grace and Mercy, all things are possible.  To God Be the Glory!!
